So it’s come that time of year again: St. Patrick’s Day. To most, this is a day synonymous with social festivities and plenty of drinking but to those a bit more enlightened, those a bit more like myself, St. Patty’s Day means something else.
It was just about a year ago that one of the biggest internet video crazes came about, one that to this day is still one of my favorites. It was this video that came from Alabama of course, showing masses gathering in response to sightings of a local leprechaun and his gold. I naturally got in on the craze dedicating a spotlight to him here. Various video edits, music remixes and various other pieces of media related to the video clip flooded the net. Almost a year after the Mobile, AL Leprechaun got its shot in the spotlight I will make an introduction/dedication to a recent favorite of mine, thought it is a few months old and somewhat ruined by the fact that it was embraced by the evil Ellen DeGeneres. This video again comes from Alabama and indeed acts as proof that, yes, there is something in the water down there. It may not have the same appeal as the Leprechaun video but this rap video by Sammy Stephens no doubt deserves the internet craze that it has garnered over the past few months. A blue screen version of the video was posted online as well to add to the number of remixes out there on the web as well. Check out YouTube for a variety of these sorts of clips. To those that have seen this video, it may be no big deal. It is perhaps the worst commercial ever and you all know this. But have you seen the flea market’s official website?? Yes not only is Sammy Stephens behind one of the worst dances and worst raps on the internet, but also one of the worst websites out there: http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/FLMM5719/default.htm. (No need for a ".com" of course). Note the informative "Sammy Stephens" section of the site as well as the photo gallery which features only an autographed photo of Maury Povich and this classy picture of Sammy (of course in enormous 1920 x 2560 resolution):
Just be thankful that he’s hiding those bulging piercing eyes of his behind those shades.
