Mike Awesome has joined the long list of wrestling superstars to die at an all-too-early age. Now, I was never a fan of ECW. I never really found guys diving through flaming tables and thumbtacks to be entertaining, and I sure as hell never considered it “wrestling.” However, something has to be said for what type of performer Mike Awesome was. At around 300 pounds, Awesome regularly tempted fate by climbing to the top rope. In the words of Joey Styles during one of Mike’s matches in ECW, “most 300 pounders don’t even get off the ground anymore, brother.” Along with the also recently deceased Bam Bam Bigelow, Awesome was probably the most agile big man ever.
