Grizzly as the title alone suggests is a Jaws ripoff with a bear in place of a shark. The similarities between the stories of the two films is perhaps the greatest part of Grizzly. The park ranger wants the campers out, the owner of the land wants them to stay because it’s good business and the two clash while people die. Dialog from the movie matches exchanges from Jaws so closely at times it’s laughable and the film even manages to have a naked girl die while taking a swim. Overall it was a gem, and the ending absolutely priceless. As for Day of the Animals, it’s a story of what may happen (as reported in ‘77) if we continue to use aerosol cans and mess with the ozone era. Animals start to behave strangely and violently, and any beast above the altitude of 5,000 feet goes on the rampage. Rats, mountain lions, birds, snakes, dogs, more dogs, still more dogs are among the animals that take offensive. But I think the highlight would have to be Leslie Nielsen as a power-drunk madman who ends up wrestling a bear. Hunt these films down. As for more recent horror films, I figure I’ll skeptically check out this “After Dark Horrorfest” tomorrow night and see a film that’s screening on it’s last night in theaters across the country. I’m not expecting much but it may be worthwhile. I was pleasantly surprised with the film Severance that I randomly saw at some horror movie festival in Germany this past June so maybe I’ll have some equally good luck with this one. I’ve got another review in the works, as “B” as a movie can get so stay tuned for that as I slowly get it together. Also, another writer should be adding a review soon and I’m excited to see how it turns out. Bookmark the site and come back for some juicy stuff. And by the way, right now I’m finding OJ Simpson, Michael Richards and the Philadelphia Eagles particularly disgusting. One Response to “Grizzly Bears and Leslie Nielsen”
